TYPES OF COUNSELING OFFERED

MARRIAGE COUNSELING – When there are:
communication break-downs often
less understanding and trust, more frustrations
the same old arguments
a crisis (such as infidelity)

In marriage counseling it is the relationship itself that I consider to be the “client.” Both partners contribute to the dance, and each has their part to play. Communication skill-building between them is often a part of this mode; with the increase of true understanding, often many problems shrink, become more manageable, or disappear altogether. Many aspects of individual counseling are also used with each partner.

At least one individual session with each partner can be used to offer each the freedom to describe their concerns, preventing more stress to their relationship and without compromising its integrity.

INDIVIDUAL ADULT COUNSELING – When there are:
distortions leading to negative self-image
struggles with mood control (anger, anxiety, depression, etc.)
problem solving difficulties
habits to be changed

Much of the approach used for couples would also apply for the individual; problem-solving, self-understanding, skill-building, communication and support are potential aspects to be explored. Present circumstances, historical influences and personal strengths are often examined to develop a strategy catered to the individual needs and goals of the client. Brief phone contact between sessions is free of charge. I customarily assign homework as a part of the therapy process.

PREMARITAL COUNSELING – When there are:
ceremony officiating requirements
compatibility curiosities
exaggerated expectations
gaps in life planning

I offer a very affordable package for engaged couples, or those who wish to explore their compatibility. It includes a comprehensive assessment survey (PREPARE) and focus on Scriptural foundations for the covenant of marriage. It usually includes five 1 hour sessions within about a six week period.
